LotR...someone had to ask

I thought the Lord of the Rings movies were very well pulled off. Though they could've followed the books closer, they made the movies so that the people who hadn't read the books thought it was way cool and not super boring, and the people who had read the books didn't lynch them. What do you guys think?
Tom Bombadil should've been in the movie that's the only part I got really ticked on...well there were a few other ones, but that one was the big thing I hated about the straying from the book parts.
